Free Patterns 1939 Romper and Dress Free Patterns and Full Service Custom Costume Maker
The actual outfit that I made for myself.
The measure ments of the pattern are Bust 38 Waist 36 Hips 42
Directions
Sew the pantlegs together. Sew the crotch of a bloomer front to the crotch of a bloomer back. Then sew the outside of the pant leg.
Make sure you a very careful that when you make the second you make mirror images of them. Or else you will end up with two of the same leg.
Then sew the curved crotches together, make sure the short seams match up. Leave open a 8" to 10" area in the front so that you can pull it up over the hips.
Add pleats or gathers as needed
Sew the back middle seam, right sides together
Sew the front bodice pieces to the new full back at the side seams and the shoulders. Sew the front as needed with pleats, gathers, or the darts that are included in the pattern. Also fold the front edge over once or twice so that you have a sturdy base for the buttons
Stitch the underarms of the sleeve together. Hem the bottom of the sleeve with a nice hem. I like to use ones that are similar to that at the bottom of jeans. Then sew a long gether stich over the shoulder and gather it to fit the armhold of the bodice.
Sew as you stretch the elastic on the wrong side of the sleeve.
Attach the sleeve to the bodice.
fold over the bias tape at the collar of the bodice. this just gives it a nice clean edge. I used ribbon, use what ever you want.
Back to the bloomers. Press down the open crotch area, and add a closure. Mine actually has a zipper.
Attach the bloomers to the Bodice, using some mall pleats if needed.
Do a similar hem along the bottom of the bloomers and then add the elastic the same way it was done around the sleeves. Add buttons and button holes and hand tac a bow at the top of the neck. Enjoy! |
